Volleyball teams hosting Dig Pink match

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team will play its annual Dig Pink match tonight at Irvine Valley at 6 p.m. against Orange Coast.

Admission is $5 for fans and that includes a pink Asics shirt. There will also be a raffle held with prizes. All money raised will go to the Side-Out Foundation for cancer awareness.

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team will be running the event.

The match is also big in terms of standing in the Pacific Coast Conference. IVC, Orange Coast and Grossmont are tied for first place in conference with 3-1 records.

Both Irvine Valley and Orange Coast are coming off losses on Wednesday in five sets.

The Pirates dropped their first match of the season losing at Grossmont, 29-27, 25-19, 25-27, 18-25, 15-11.

Orange Coast, which has a record of 10-1 overall, is led by freshman opposite Jim Webb, sophomore outside hitter Ty Hutchins and sophomore setter Brendan Duff.

Irvine Valley dropped its first match in conference play on Wednesday, falling at Golden West in five sets.

Kevin Vaz had 16 kills and 10 blocks to lead Irvine Valley. AJ Hammer added 14 kills, Josh Schmidt had 11 kills and Davis Cannon and Cole Murray each ended with 10 kills. Ryan Spector finished with 14 digs and John Lasezky had 35 assists and 12 digs for IVC.

This is the first of three straight home matches for the Lasers. They host San Diego City next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
