Men's volleyball team earns first win of 2014

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team earned its first victory of the 2014 season Friday night, winning at Santa Monica in four sets.

The Lasers came out on top, 28-26, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22, in the non-conference contest.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 1-2 on the season.

IVC dropped a four-set match at Moorpark and lost in five sets at home to Santa Barbara City to open the year.

On Friday at Santa Monica, Irvine Valley's middle blockers led the way.

Freshman middle Marcus Dillon had 13 kills and 7 blocks, freshman middle Kevin Vaz added 11 kills and four blocks and sophomore middle Taylor Kempkes had six kills and hit .555.

Freshman outside hitter Cole Murray had eight kills and six digs, freshman outside hitter AJ Hammer finished with six kills and three blocks and freshman opposite Davis Cannon had six kills for the Lasers.

Freshmen Steven Duhoux and John Lasezky split time at the setter position with Lasezky finishing with 20 assists and Duhoux with 17 assists.

And freshman libero Ryan Spector contributed seven digs for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday, traveling to LA Pierce for a 1 p.m. match.
