Men's tennis wraps up perfect OEC season with 9-0 victory

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team finished up the regular season with a 9-0 Orange Empire Conference victory over Orange Coast on Tuesday at home.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 10-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference. IVC, ranked No. 1 in So. Cal. by the ITA, had already clinched the conference title last week.

The Lasers' only defeat so far this year came last Thursday to four-year Gustavus Adolphus in a tight 4-3 contest.

On Tuesday, Irvine Valley had a much easier time with Orange Coast Tuesday.

It won five of six singles matches in straight sets and cruised in two of the doubles matches.

Starting in doubles, freshmen Nick Grove and Luciano Pardo won, 8-3, at the No. 1 spot and sophomore Alyan Ashraf and freshman Patrick Riggs came out on top, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.

IVC's No. 2 team of freshmen Lucas Diaz and Lucas Torres had to fight for a 9-8 victory.

In singles, Grove at No. 1, Sufyan Ashraf at No. 3, Diaz at No. 4, Torres at No. 5 and freshman Mimi Covino at No. 6 each won in straight sets.

Freshman Sufyan Ashraf dropped just three games, Diaz lost only one game and Corvino lost just two games.

Irvine Valley begins play in the OEC Individual Tournament on Thursday at Riverside. The event runs through Friday.

Grove is the top seed in singles and Grove and Pardo are No. 1 in doubles.
