Tennis team claims another Orange Empire Conference title

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team cinched another Orange Empire Conference title with a 7-2 victory over Riverside Tuesday afternoon at home.

The Lasers, ranked No. 1 in So. Cal., improved their record to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the OEC.

The key for IVC was winning all three doubles matches. The first time Irvine Valley defeated Riverside City, 7-2, on Mar. 7 at RCC, the Lasers were up, 2-1, after doubles.

This time around, Irvine Valley took a big lead after freshmen Nick Grove and Luciano Pardo won, 8-5, in doubles on the top court, the freshmen duo of Lucas Diaz and Lucas Torres came out on top, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot, and the No. 3 team of freshmen Patrick Riggs and sophomomore Alyan Ashraf earned a 8-4 victory.

The Lasers closed things out in singles with wins from Grove (6-4, 6-2) at No. 1 singles, Diaz at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-4), Torres in the sixth spot (6-3, 7-5) and Riggs battling for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory to close things out.

Irvine Valley plays four-year Gustavus Adophus on Thursday at 2 p.m. and finishes up conference play next Tuesday at home against Orange Coast at 2 p.m.
