The No. 1 in So. Cal. men's tennis team downs Saddleback, 9-0

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team was ranked No. 1 in Southern California in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll early this week.

And the Lasers proceeded to do what they have done all year long in 2024.

Irvine Valley went on the road Tuesday and defeated Saddleback, 9-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match.

The Lasers improved their record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in conference.

The win was Irvine Valley's fourth 9-0 win of the year. 

IVC dropped just seven total games in singles and six games in doubles overall on Tuesday.

Freshman No. 1 player Nick Grove, who is Irvine Valley's athlete of the week and the Orange Empire Conference's athlete of the week, won, 6-0, 6-0.

Sophomore Sergio Jardas also won, 6-0, 6-0, for the Lasers in the No. 5 singles spot.

Others picking up straight-set singles victories for Irvine Valley were freshmen Sufyan Ashraf, Lucas Diaz and Lucas Torres and sophomore Alyan Ashraf.

In doubles action, Grove and freshman Luciano Pardo won, 8-3, in the top spot, Diaz and Torres won, 8-1, at No. 2 and Jardas and Alyan Ashraf picked up an 8-2 victory at third doubles.

Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday at home in a conference match against Orange Coast at 2 p.m.
