Men's tennis team stays at the top of the OEC standings

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team stayed on a roll Tuesday afternoon at home.

The Lasers won two of three doubles matches and five of six contests in singles for a 7-2 Orange Empire Conference victory over Oraenge Coast.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in conference. The Lasers remained one match ahead of Riverside for first place.

Thursday's contest started the second round of OEC play.

IVC defeated OCC, 6-3, in the first round.

The Lasers were able to pick up a match from the first time around by winning a close one at No. 3 doubles with sophomore Alexis Sueur and freshman Sergio Jardas. The duo defeated OCC's team of Ryan Mayers and Will Davis, 8-6.

Irvine Valley also picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles from sophomores Kiichi Ishida and Harold Santana, 8-3.

The two wins in doubles gave the Lasers a big advantage heading into singles action.

And Ishida at No. 1, Kashishian at No. 2, Ashraf at No. 3, Jardas on the fifth court and freshman Rudra Pathak in the sixth spot put the match away with victories in straight sets.

Ishida and Jardas each only gave up three games and Ashraf allowed just four games.

Irvine will turn around and play again on Friday, hosting Fullerton in a conference match at 10 a.m. It is a makeup match from a contest that was rained out two weeks ago.
