Men's tennis team sweeps past Saddleback in OEC opener

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team started Orange Empire Conference play with an easy win over Saddleback on Tuesday at home.

The Lasers took all three doubles matches and then won each of the six singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 Orange Empire Conference victory.

Irvine Valley took control in doubles with the teams of sophomore Devon Kashishian and freshman Alyan Ashraf (8-3), sophomore Harold Santana and sophomore Kiichi Ishida (8-2) and sophomore Alexis Sueur and freshman Sergio Jardas (8-2) each taking their matches.

In singles, Ishida was the star at the No. 1 spot. He didn't give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Ashraf also won 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles and Jardas only gave up three games on the fifth court.

Kashishian (6-3, 7-5) at No. 2, Santana (6-1, 6-4) at No. 4 and sophomore Shane Iranpour (6-4, 6-1) on the sixth court each also won in straight sets for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's match scheduled for Thursday at home against Fullerton has been postponed due to incoming rain.

The contest will be made up on Friday, Mar. 17 at 10 a.m.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Thursday, Mar. 2 at Orange Coast at 2 p.m. in a big early-season OEC match-up.
