Men's tennis team breezes in first round of playoffs

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team started the California Community College Athletic Association So. Cal. Regional Playoffs with a 5-1 win over Glendale at home on Tuesday afternoon.

IVC improved its record to 11-3 overall. The Lasers are on a 10-match win streak.

No. 3 Irvine Valley plays at top-seeded in So. Cal. College of the Desert next Tuesday at 2 p.m. with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

Irvine Valley won two of three doubles contests to start on Tuesday and then captured three, quick singles matches to reach five points and end the match.

In doubles, Irvine Valley received wins from the No. 2 team of freshmen Arthur Bellegy and Victor Chaix, 8-0, and the freshmen duo of Hugo Redelinger and Luis Moros, 8-1, on the third court.

In singles, the Lasers raced to wins with freshmen Pierre Vandegaer and Inaki Braun Simo leading the way.

Vandegaer, at No. 2 singles, and Simo, on the fourth fourth court each won, 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Luis Moros wrapped up the match and overall win with a 6-0, 6-1, victory at third singles.

IVC hosts the Orange Empire Conference Championships for individuals, starting this Thursday at 2 p.m.
