Men's tennis team captures a conference title once again

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team made the most of its 2021 season.

The Lasers captured another Orange Empire Conference title and went undefeated at 6-0.

IVC closed out the season with 7-2 win at Riverside last Thursday. It was the second time that IVC defeated RCC, 7-2, this year.

Irvine Valley has won OEC titles six out of the last eight seasons.

The Lasers have now won OEC team championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021 (no conference champion in 2020).

Add to that for the Lasers was a string of three straight state titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

This year's Lasers won't get a chance to win a state this year, but the players still get to add their names to the list as some of the best in program history.

IVC won two of three doubles matches at Riverside on Thursday and then took five of six singles contests.

In doubles, Irvine Valley's top team of freshmen Julio Vargas and Luis Moros won, 8-4, and the No. 2 team of freshmen Trevor Quenan and freshman Victor Chaix came out on top, 8-6, over the Riverside duo of Chris Lee and Justin Rigsby.

Riverside's pair of Carlos and Rafael Rullan, won, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.

But the Lasers were on top of their game in singles, taking matches on courts two through six.

IVC's top player, Vargas, lost in a tough, three-set match to RCC's Arlot Aurelien.

But Chaix won in three sets at No. 2 singles (6-4, 4-6, 1-0) and Moros (6-3, 6-4), Quenan (6-1, 6-2), freshman Hugo Redelinger (6-2, 6-2) and freshman Cole Martin (6-3, 6-2) closed things out for Irvine Valley.
