Men's tennis team has an easy time in 2020 season opener

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team kicked off its 2020 campaign with an easy 8-1 win over San Diego Mesa at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers, who finished with a record of 12-2 last season and made the semifinals of the regional playoffs, look to have another strong squad this year.

Irvine Valley won all three doubles points and then five out of six singles contests.

Freshmen Blake Anderson and Akshay Harishankar won, 8-4, at the No. 1 doubles spot and freshman Leonardo Oliveira and sophomore Jacob Holiday came through with a 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.

San Diego Mesa defaulted the third doubles match.

In singles, Irvine Valley picked up straight-set wins from sophomore Julian Lafond at No. 1, Harishankar at No. 3, freshman Luis Moros at the fourth position and sophomore William Li at No. 5 singles.

Neither Moros or Li dropped a game in their victories.

Lafond won, 6-2, 6-0, and Harishankar came out on top, 6-4, 6-0.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Cerritos for a 2 p.m. nonconference match.
