Irvine Valley's men's tennis team wrapped up an undefeated Orange Empire Conference campaign and won their 11th match in a row with a 8-1 victory over Riverside on Thursday at home.
It was the final match of the regular season for the Lasers, who improved their record to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
The last time Irvine Valley went undefeated in a conference season was in 2017 when the squad captured its third consecutive state title. That 2017 team went 19-0 overall.
Irvine Valley's only loss so far this year was in its regular season opener. The Lasers fell to Cerritos, 5-4, in a tough match at home on Feb. 12. In the last ITA rankings for Southern California, Cerritos was ranked No. 1 and IVC was No. 2.
On Thursday, IVC had no problem with Riverside.
The Lasers won all three doubles matches and then took five of six singles contests.
In doubles, Irvine Valley's top team of sophomore Leszek Mirecki and freshman Julian Lafond won, 8-2.
The No. 2 Laser team of freshmen Derek Lin and Rodrigo Souza came out on top, 8-1, and the No. 3 team of sophomore Thallys Santos and Mateo Maya won, 8-1.
In singles, Lafond defeated Gleb Mityurin, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.
Lin fell at No. 2 singles, but the Lasers got straight-set wins from Souza at No. 3, Santos at No. 4, freshman Jorge Villagra at the fifth spot and Maya at No. 6.
Souza and Maya didn't drop a set in their victories.
The Lasers now await the playoff pairings for the Southern California Team Regional Dual Playoffs. The Lasers are expected to get a home match for the first round of the playoffs next Tuesday.
