Men's tennis team takes down sixth-ranked Arizona Mesa

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team picked up one of its most impressive wins of the season on Friday, beating Arizona Mesa, 7-2, at home.

Mesa was ranked No. 6 in the national junior college rankings.

The Lasers got big efforts across the board in the victory.

Sophomore Leszek Mirecki and sophomore Thallys Santos each came back in singles contests to win in three sets.

Freshmen Parker McBride and Derek Lin each also looked good. McBride beat Gonzalo Fernandez-Gill, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Lin captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lucas Severo at No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Irvine Valley won each match. Santos and freshman Mateo Maya were impressive, coming out on top, 8-1, at the No. 3 doubles spot.

The victory was Irvine Valley's sixth in a row and improved their record to 6-1 overall. The Lasers haven't lost since their opening match of the season on Feb. 12 – a 5-4 defeat to Cerritos.
