Men's tennis team clinches third place in conference

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team guaranteed a third place finish in the Orange Empire Conference with a 7-2 win over Fullerton on the road on Thursday afternoon.

The Lasers, ranked No. 6 in Southern California in the latest Oracle/ITA poll, improved their record to 6-8 overall and 6-3 in conference.

Riverside and Cypress are tied for first in the conference with 8-1 records heading into the final week of the regular season.

IVC will have its streak of four straight conference titles broken this season.

The Lasers still won all three doubles contests to take control of the match and then captured four of six in singles on Thursday.

In doubles, IVC's No. 3 team of freshmen Jacob Holiday and Alvaro Mantilla won, 8-1, over Dharric-Paul Rosario and Chris Enciso.

The No. 2 team of freshmen Stuart Webb and Randy Murphy won, 8-4, and the No. 1 team of freshmen Thallys Santos and Michael Bott came out on top, 8-6, over Jose Bernardo Flores and Rodrigo Onante.

IVC got a stellar performance in singles from Mantilla at the No. 4 spot. He won, 6-0, 6-0, over Thiago Manzano.
Bott gave up just three games, winning 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, as did Santos at No. 3 singles, taking his match, 6-2, 6-1.

IVC also got a three-set win from Webb at the No. 5 position. He battled back to win, 4-6, 6-2, (10-4) over Enciso.

Irvine Valley finishes the regular season next Tuesday at Riverside at 2 p.m.
