Men's tennis team drops opener to solid NCAA Division III team

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team had a scrimmage at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego last week, but officially kicked off its 2018 season on Saturday against one of the top NCAA Division III teams in the nation.

The Lasers, who are the two-time defending CCCAA Dual Team State Champion, fell to Pomona Pitzer, 9-0.

IVC dropped all six matches in singles in straight sets.

Freshman Stuart Webb played well before falling to Jack Bernstein, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot.

IVC was close in two of the three doubles contests.

Freshmen Michael Bott and Thallys Santos lost, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles and Webb and freshman Alvaro Mantilla fell, 8-6, at the No. 3 position.

Irvine Valley will be back in action in its first home match of the season next Tuesday when it hosts NAIA Hope International at 2 p.m.
