Men's tennis team plays tough, but falls to Mesa at home

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team just missed out on a win Friday morning at home.

The Lasers fell, 5-4, to Mesa Community College from Arizona.

Irvine Valley won two matches in singles and two more in doubles.

IVC freshman Michael Bott won at No. 1 singles and freshman William Li came out on top at the No. 4 spot.

Bott defeated Yohann Prinsen after Prinsen had to retire early in second set.

Li beat Yuri Jacob, 4-6, 6-3, (10-5).

Laser freshman Jacob Holiday took Ali Moin to three sets at the No. 2 singles position, but fell, 10-5, in the super-tiebreaker.

In doubles, Irvine Valley took matches at the first and second spots.

Freshman Thallys Santos and Bott defeated Jorge Sala and Lucas Severo, 9-8 (7-2) at first doubles and Holiday and Li beat Moin and Jeff Martin, 8-6, at the second spot.

IVC's record slipped to 0-5 overall.

Irvine Valley plays again next Thursday, starting Orange Empire Conference action at Saddleback at 2 p.m.
