Men's tennis team moves to 7-0 with sweep of Riverside

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team is making it a habit of sweeping opponents this season.

The Lasers defeated Riverside, 9-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday on the road.

It was IVC's fifth 9-0 victory this season and third time in conference that the Lasers have accomplished the feat.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 1 in the state and the two-time defending state champion, improved its record to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Lasers won five of six singles sets in straight sets.

Freshman Wyatt DeMulling, sophomore Lucas Lesoeur, freshman Chris Politiek, freshman Leszek Mirecki and sophomore Luis Castillo each won matches in straight sets.

DeMulling beat James Adra, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, Lesoeur won, 6-1, 6-1, at second singles and Castillo topped Trent Harris, 6-1, 6-2, at the fifth spot.

IVC sophomore Jack Fryer battled to beat Brandon Moerer, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3, in the No. 6 singles position.

In doubles, IVC also cruised, winning all three matches.

DeMulling and Politiek shined at the No. 2 position, beating Grady Harrell and Moerer, 8-1.

Irvine Valley is home again on Thursday in another conference match. The Lasers host district rival Saddleback at 2 p.m.
