IVC teams, athletes and coaches honored at Campus Celebration

A host of Irvine Valley student-athletes, teams and coaches were recognized at the first Campus Community Recognition Celebration on Wednesday at the Great Oaks Terrace.

The event was hosted by Irvine Valley President Glenn Roquemore.

Laser teams, athletes and coaches received resolutions and commendations for their accomplishments over the 2015-16 school year.

Honorees included Martin McGrogan, who was the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year in men's soccer and earned his 300th career victory on Oct. 23, ranking second all-time nationally among community college coaches.

McGrogan was also named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in women's badminton.

Tom Pestolesi was named the Orange Empire Coach of the Year in women's volleyball and beach volleyball, picked up his 300th career women's volleyball victory on Nov. 13 and was inducted into the State men's volleyball coaches Hall of Fame on April 29.

Men's head tennis coach Ross Duncan was named captain of the US Davis Cup Young Seniors Team

Assistant volleyball coach Nate Ngo was selected to the US Men's Volleyball Coaching staff for 2016 Olympic Games.

Toby Waterman was picked Orange Empire Conference men's soccer MVP, first team all-state and All-American.

Women's golfer Hyerin Kim finished third in the Orange Empire Conference and sixth at the state championships.

Women's volleyball player Kayla Scheevel was selected as the Orange Empire Conference MVP, first team all-state and first team all-state academic

Women's volleyball player Emily Reinking was selected first team all-state academic.

Jordan Coleman was named honorable mention All-American in women's basketball for the second straight year.

Women's basketball player Tara Casey was selected third team all-state.

Badminton player Jurate Foes was picked Pacific Coast Athletic Conference MVP and won the conference singles championship.

Cora Tanuwidjaja and Tracey Nie earned the conference doubles badminton championship.

Javier Callejo won Irvine Valley's first-ever men's singles state championship in tennis. He also teamed with Sam Cohen to finish second in the state in doubles.

Men's tennis players Scott Paz and Bruno Figlia captured the state doubles title.

Reinking and Hailee Earnest won the Orange Empire Conference pairs championship in beach volleyball and then captured the state pairs title.

Five teams won conference championships. They included women's volleyball, beach volleyball, men's soccer, badminton and men's tennis.

The men's soccer team was also ranked ninth in the nation and fifth in the state for community colleges.

The women's beach volleyball team finished second in the state.

And the men's tennis team won its second state title in a row.
