Men's and women's tennis teams both home for playoffs

For the first time in school history, the Irvine Valley men's and women's tennis teams will host a first-round Southern California Regional Dual Team Playoff match at home.

Both teams will be at home on Tuesday with the IVC women's team, which is seeded fourth, hosting No. 6 Mt. San Antonio at 10:30 a.m. The Laser men's squad, which is the top seed, takes on No. 8 San Diego Mesa at 2 p.m.

This is the second straight trip to the playoffs for the IVC women's team. The Laser men's team is the defending state champion. The team also finished as the runner up at the state finals two years ago.

The Irvine Valley men's team has a record of 17-2 overall with its only two losses coming to ranked four-year schools. The team has won 12 matches in a row and captured its third straight Orange Empire Conference title last Thursday with a 9-0 win over Saddleback at home.

A win on Tuesday would move IVC on to the second round next Tuesday against No. 4 Mt. SAC or No. 6 Saddleback.

Irvine Valley's women's team has a record of 7-5 overall and finished second in the Orange Empire Conference. It was just one match back of conference champion Orange Coast. Irvine Valley defeated Mt. SAC, 6-3, earlier this year.

The winner of the IVC and Mt. SAC match would face either top-seeded Cerritos or No. 8 Santa Barbara City in the next round on April 12.
