Men's tennis team earns second straight 9-0 win in conference

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team posted its second straight 9-0 victory in Orange Empire Conference play, beating Fullerton at home on Thursday.

Irvine Valley, the defending state champion and ranked No. 1 in Southern California this year, improved its record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.

The 9-0 victory was IVC's fourth so far this season.

Irvine Valley won all six singles matches in straight sets - most of them were easy.

Sophomore Scott Paz (No. 2), freshman Gavin Lynch (No. 3), Jack Fryer (No. 5) and Rafael Lourenco (No. 6) each won by scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Tony Selim breezed, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and sophomore Sam Cohen came out on top, 6-4, 6-1 over Fullerton's S McCormack at No. 1 singles for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley swept the doubles. The team of freshman Javier Callejo and Cohen won, 8-1, at the top spot.

The team of Lourenco and Fryer earned a 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

And the IVC team of Selim and Lynch capped the Laser win with a 8-5 triumph at No. 2 doubles.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at home against Riverside at 2 p.m. The Tigers have a record of 6-3 overall and are also 2-0 in conference play.
