Top-ranked men's tennis team shuts out No. 6 Grossmont

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team beat another highly ranked community college squad on the road Tuesday.

After taking down No. 2 in Southern California Cerritos last Thursday, 8-1, the Lasers, ranked No. 1 in So. Cal. beat sixth-ranked Grossmont, 9-0, on Tuesday.

Defending state champion Irvine Valley lost just nine games in nine matches on the day. And no IVC player dropped more than two games in a match.

In singles, sophomore Flavien Raveau defeated Grossmont's Sean Lee, 6-1, 6-1, at the top spot.

Sophomore Sam Cohen (No. 2), freshman Javier Callejo (No. 3) and sophomore Scott Paz (No. 6) each lost only one game.

Freshman Juan Navarro won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and freshman Octave Bellet earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at no. 5 singles.

To highlight the doubles portion of the match, IVC's No. 3 team of sophomore Tony Selim and freshman Gavin Lynch won, 8-0.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-1 overall. Its only loss has been to nationally-ranked four year-school San Diego Christian.

Irvine Valley takes on another four-year school, hosting Division 2 Concordia on Thursday at 2 p.m.
