
Irvine Valley's men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2016 season, beating four-year college Hope International at home on Tuesday.
The Lasers, who lost to four-year and nationally-ranked NAIA team San Diego Christian, 5-4, last Thursday on the road, improved their record to 1-1.
IVC, which is the defending state champion, won five of six singles sets and all three doubles contests on Tuesday.
Irvine Valley picked up default wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
In other matches, IVC sophomore Sam Cohen won easy for the Lasers at the No. 1 singles position, 6-0, 6-3.
Freshman Javier Callejo came out on top, 6-0, 6-2, No. 3 singles, freshman Juan Navarro won, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot and freshman Octave Bellet cruised in winning, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles for the Lasers.
In doubles, the team of Cohen and Callejo won, 8-2, at the top spot and sophomores Flavien Raveau and Scott Paz won, 8-4.
Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday at another one of the top community college teams in Southern California, Cerritos.
