Tennis player Maxime Rumeau signs with Loyola New Orleans

Another top player from the state championship winning Irvine Valley men's tennis team has signed with a four-year school.

Sophomore Maxime Rumeau is heading to NAIA Loyola University New Orleans.

Rumeau, from France, is off to Loyola for the spring semester.

He had quite a two years at Irvine Valley.

Rumeau ended with a record of 9-0 in singles and 18-3 in doubles in 2015. He played in the fourth through six spots in singles and mostly No. 2 doubles.

He made his mark in doubles.

In the CCCAA State Championships doubled event, two Irvine Valley teams played in championship with the duo of Valentin Baize and Rumeau capturing the crown by beating sophomore teammates Guillermo Ucelay and Simon Guillin, 6-4, 6-1.

Baize and Rumeau, the No. 8 seed and the No. 2 Laser duo, defeating the top two seeds to win the title. Baize and Rumeau upset top-seeded Hironori Koyanagi and Corey Karen from Ventura in the morning semifinal 6-3, 4-6, (10-7), then beat their second-seeded teammates Guillin and Ucelay for the title.

Baize and Rumeau also had to win a tough three-set match, 6-4, 4-6, (10-4) win the quarterfinals of the tournament over San Diego Mesa's team of Corentin Haener and Kimo Barrere.

Rumeau was also a big part of Irvine Valley's first state team title this spring.

The Lasers won the state title in Ventura with a 5-2 victory over Foothill last April. IVC, which also won the Orange Empire Conference title, finished the season with a record of 18-1 overall.

With Rumeau as a big contributor, Irvine Valley finished second in the state in 2014.

During the 2014 season, he had a record of 14-4 in singles and was 3-3 in doubles action.

Rumeau, who was an all-Orange Empire Conference selection, was later named an ITA All-American in doubles.

To make All-American, a player must finish in the top 10 in singles of the final ITA college tennis rankings or in the top five in doubles of the final ITA rankings.

He is headed to a Loyola program that competes in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Rumeau will join a former IVC teammate there. Steven Le moved on from the Laser program to Loyola this year. Le played No. 3 singles for IVC and helped the Lasers take second in the state in 2014.

Rumeau is the third player from the 2015 Laser team to sign, following Ucelay at BYU Hawaii and Guillin at Oregon.
