Men's tennis team sweeps third straight conference opponent

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team swept its third straight Orange Empire Conference opponent Tuesday afternoon at home.

The Lasers beat Fullerton, 9-0, in just under two hours to follow sweeps of conference teams Cypress and Orange Coast last week.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 11-1 overall and 7-0 in conference.

The Lasers are after their second straight undefeated conference campaign.

They finish up with three straight home matches. IVC plays Riverside on Thursday, hosts second-place Saddleback next Tuesday and then plays host to Cypress on Mar. 31.

On Tuesday against Fullerton, Irvine Valley dropped just nine games in 12 singles sets.

The Lasers got straight set wins from a freshmen lineup of Carson Williams, Bruno Figlia, Scott Paz, Stan Gavoty and Luis Castillo along with sophomore Valentin Baize.

Williams (No. 1 singles), Gavoty (No. 4 singles) and Castillo (No. 6 singles) each lost only one game.

Figlia blanked his opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the IVC teams of Baize and sophomore Max Rumeau, Paz and Williams and Castillo and Figlia each had an easy time.
