
Irvine Valley's men's tennis team kept cruising along in the 2014 CCCAA Dual Team South Regional Championship.
The Lasers, seeded first, moved into the regional final with a 5-1 semifinal win over No. 4 Mt. San Jacinto at home on Tuesday.
Irvine Valley will host the regional final on Saturday against either No. 2 College of the Desert or No. 3 Cerritos.
With the win on Tuesday, Irvine Valley improved its record to 16-2 overall on the season. Mt. San Jacinto fell to 14-6.
The Lasers captured two of the three doubles matches to start the day.
The No. 2 team of freshmen Guillermo Ucelay and Simon Guillin won, 8-2, and the No. 3 team of sophomore Steven Le and freshman Kevin Pham came out on top, 8-3.
IVC's No. 1 doubles team of freshmen Jack Divorty and Benjamin Groud played Mt. San Jacinto's top duo of Vitor Galvao and Bruno Campos tough before losing, 8-6.
Irvine Valley then won three straight singles matches to wrap up the overall team victory.
Freshman Max Rumeau breezed, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles and Divorty won, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Pham closed it out with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
IVC was also ahead in the three other singles matches that were unfinished.
Ucelay (No. 1 singles), Guillin (No. 2 singles) and Le (No. 3 singles) were each up a set.
The winner of the regional final on Saturday advances to the State Championships next Wednesday at Ojai.
