Ross Duncan named to USA Senior International Men's Tennis Team

Irvine Valley men's tennis coach Ross Duncan was recently chosen to compete for the United States in Senior International Team Play for the third straight year.

Duncan will play in the Italia Cup (men's age 35) for the USA in the 34th International Tennis Federation Senior World Team Championships in Boca Raton, Fla.

The prestigious international team event will be held April 21-26 and will be played on green clay.

The event is the seniors equivalent of Davis Cup and Fed Cup for players age 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55 and over.

Each Cup team consists of four players selected from the entire country, based on their USTA senior tournament results in 2013.

There will be teams from around the globe, representing six continents.

Duncan, who is in his second year as Irvine Valley's men's tennis coach and led the Lasers to their first ever Orange Empire Conference title this season, was captain of the U.S. men's (age) 35 Italia Cup team last season.

Last year's tourney was held on red clay at the Ali Bey Club Manavgat in Antalya, Turkey.

Duncan helped guide the United States 35 team to a 12th-place finish in the Italia Cup.

Duncan then earned bronze medals in both the mixed doubles and men's doubles events in the individual championships.

He's had a solid year as an individual in 2014, repeating as the Mission Hills tournament singles champion and also adding the doubles title.

His teammates for the Italia Cup are Michael Halperin (Boca Raton, Fla.), Mark Tepes (Medford, NJ, playing captain) and Jared Jacobs (Scottsdale, Ariz.).
