
Irvine Valley's men's tennis team won its seventh straight match Tuesday afternoon.
And the Lasers did it in a big way.
Irvine Valley shut out Saddleback for the first time in school history.
The Lasers beat the Gauchos, 9-0, at Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference contest.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in conference.
IVC also handed Saddleback its first loss in conference play.
The Lasers won all six singles matches in straight sets in the win over Saddleback.
IVC players dropped a combined 14 games in the 12 sets.
Freshman Guillermo Ucelay defeated Jeff Gelman, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles and freshman Simon Guillin beat Jon Pulido, 6-2, 6-1, at no. 2 singles for IVC.
IVC sophomore James Lafond (No. 4 singles) and freshman Thomas Gibson (No. 6 singles) each won their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
The first two doubles matches were tougher.
But IVC's team of Ucelay and Guillin earned a 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and the team of sophomore James Lafond and freshman Austin Do earned a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles for IVC.
The team of Gibson and freshman Jack Divorty won, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday, hosting Orange Coast in a conference match at 2 p.m.
