Men's tennis team finishes 13th in final state poll

Irvine Valley's men's tennis team finished the 2013 season ranked No. 13 in the state in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, which came out earlier this week.

It is the highest ranking for Irvine Valley since the poll has been in existence.

Irvine Valley finished with a record of 13-4 this season.

The Lasers won their last five matches of the season, including beating rival Saddleback, 5-4, to clinch second in the Orange Empire Conference.

Irvine Valley was also ranked as high as No. 7 in Southern California this season.

The doubles teams of freshman James Lafond and freshman Steven Le and sophomore Rafael Da Luz and sophomore Jaime Roman each made the state tournament at Ojai.

Lafond and Le reached the round of 16. The duo ended up being ranked 19th in the state in doubles by the ITA.

Da Luz and Roman were ranked 45th.

And Da Luz reached state tournament in singles.

He won a match before losing in the second round to the second seed in the event. Da Luz ended up ranked 32nd in the state in singles by the ITA.

Da Luz was also recently named Irvine Valley's male scholar athlete of the year.
