Men's soccer team settles with 1-1 draw against Santa Ana

irvine Valley's men's soccer team held on to its second place in the Orange Empire Conference standings after a 1-1 draw at home against Santa Ana Friday afternoon.

It was the second tie for the Lasers with Santa Ana in conference play.

The Lasers, ranked No. 11 in the state, out-shot the Dons, 12-5, on the day, and had plenty of chances.

IVC took eight shots alone in the first half.

But, the two teams were at 0-0 heading into the second half.

Irvine Valley scored its goal eight minutes into the secon period (53rd minute) when sophomore forward Ivan Lopez played a ball through to sophomore forward Grant Miller.

Miller finished to give IVC a 1-0 lead, but the Dons answered in the 67th minute. Remy Barazin scored off of a feed from Diego Corona.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Josh Simonton made two saves in the match.

For Miller, it was his 14th goal of the season and Lopez notched his 15th assist and 35th point.

The Lasers play again next Tuesday at Saddleback in a conference match at 3 p.m.
