Camarena scores two and the men's soccer team wins at GWC

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team had to settle for a tie with Golden West the first time around in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Lasers, ranked No. 11 in the state, made sure that didn't happen again, picking up a victory over the Rustlers Friday on the road.

Sophomore forward Christopher Camarena scored the first two goals and IVC went on to an imporant 3-1 win.

The Lasers solidified their place in second in the conference and moved their record to 9-2-4 overall and 4-0-4. Golden West lost its second match in a row and slipped to fourth in confernce. The Rustlers have a record of 4-5-6 overall and 3-3-2 in OEC action.

Irvine Valley got on the board early, scoring in the second minute. Camarena took a pass from freshman forward Armon Haghighat in the second minute and finished to put the Lasers up, 1-0.

The match was tied, 1-1, at the half. 

But, Camarena got it at again, scoring off of anotherfee from Haghihat in the 70th minute to give IVC the lead for good.

The Lasers made it a 3-1 game in the 75th minute when sophomore standout defender Lennart Granzow scored off of a pass from freshman midfielder Yasser Mallisho.

Irvine Valley freshman keeper Christopher Arzate made three saves in the win.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, hosting Fullerton at 3 p.m. in a contest between two of the top teams in the state.
