
Irvine Valley's men's soccer team moved to the top of the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 1-0 victory at Santiago Canyon on Friday.
The Lasers improved their record to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference.
Irvine Valley has won eight of its last 10 contests and has out-scored opponents, 29-8 over that span.
IVC also has five clean sheets over the last 10.
"The boys defended really well and controlled the game," Irvine Valley coach Conor Ward said. "We created a lot of opportunities and kept it tight at the back."
The Lasers out-shot Santiago Canyon, 15-2, in the match-up on Friday at SCC.
Irvine Valley scored in the 72nd minute off of a goal from freshman forward Christopher Camarena on an assist by freshman defender Gabriel Velasco.
Irvine Valley goalie Tygo Steenvoorden had to make one save on the day in the IVC victory.
"On a different day we might have nicked a few more goals, but when you keep a clean sheet, it just means you need the one.
"It was a great way to end the week ahead of two exciting games next week against some really well-coached games. Getting three points away today was a bonus."
The Lasers are back in action next Tuesday at home taking on Golden West at home at 3 p.m.
