Men's soccer team ends regular season with win at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 1-0 Orange Empire Conference win at Santa Ana on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a big win for the Lasers, who are in the mix for a spot in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

IVC ended the regular season with a record of 9-9-3 overall and 5-4-3 in conference. Santa Ana fell to 8-5-6 overall and 5-2-4 in conference.

The regular season officially finishes on Friday, but Irvine Valley has a bye on its schedule.

Irvine Valley currently sits third in the conference, but just ahead of Cypress and Fullerton.

Golden West and Santa Ana are tied for the conference lead with 5-2-4 records.

Golden West plays at Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana hosts Orange Coast.

Playoff brackets will be set early next week, Power Points (located on the cccaasports.com site) will be taken into consideration alongg with automatic qualifiers that are conference champions.

On Tuesday, sophomore midfielder Victory Onofre scored in the 85th minute on an unassisted goal.

The Lasers had several other chances, out-shooting Santa Ana, 18-3, and, 6-3, on goal.

But Onofre's seventh goal of the season was enough. His seven goals and 15 points is second on the team.

IVC freshman keeper Sean Salah ended with three saves for the clean sheet.
