Men's soccer team shuts out Santiago Canyon on the road

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team bounced back from a tough Orange Empire Conference opener on Tuesday with a solid 2-0 victory at Santiago Canyon Friday afternoon.

The Lasers improved their record to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Irvine Valley opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal from sophomore striker Izzy Abdelkader off an assist from freshman midfielder Adem Toskic.

And the Lasers went ahead, 2-0, 10 minutes into the second half on a header by freshman midfielder Andrew Darke off a pass from freshman forward Ivan Lopez.

Abdelkader scored his second goal of the season and Darke knocked in his first goal as a Lasers.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Tuesday, hosting a tough Golden West squad at the OC Great Park at 3 p.m. on Field 18. Fans are welcome with social distancing.

Golden West was ranked seventh in this week's state poll.
