Irvine Valley's men's soccer team is into the California Community College Athletic Association SoCal Regional Playoffs.
The Lasers start their postseason journey on Saturday, taking on a familiar foe.
Irvine Valley, which was seeded 12th plays at No. 5 and Orange Empire Conference rival Orange Coast at 2 p.m. in a first-round contest.
Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 8-7-7 overall and went 4-5-3 in a tough OEC.
Six of the seven teams from the Orange Empire Conference made the playoffs.
Orange Coast ended with a record of 12-3-5 overall and 6-2-4 in conference. The Pirates finished second in the conference standings and IVC was fifth.
The Lasers lost, 1-0, at Orange Coast the first time the two squads met on Oct. 8.
IVC then tied Orange Coast, 1-1, in the return date at Irvine Valley on Nov. 1.
Irvine Valley is led by its top scoring duo of sophomore forward Benjamin Asabi and freshman forward Max Kleinhammes. Each were named first team all-conference on Monday.
Asabi and Kleinhammes led conference players with 11 goals apiece during the regular season. Asabi added two assists.
Asabi finished with 24 points and Kleinhammes had 22 points for the Lasers.
Sophomore keeper Nathan King was one of the top goalies in the conference and earned second team honors.
He recorded the most saves out of any goalie in the conference with 99 and had a .798 save percentage.
Sophomore midfielder Gibae Kim was also picked as a second-team player for the Lasers.
Kim was a steady players throughout the season for IVC. He finished with one goal on the year.
But Irvine Valley is loaded with standout players, including freshman midfielders Dowan Kim, Idi Diallo, Izzy Abdelkader and Joshua Lummis, freshman defenders Garrett Hayes, Christopher Osuna and Kyler Doverspike and sophomore defender Jared Ellis.
Freshman forward Daniel Vargas from Orange Coast was named the conference's MVP after scoring eight goals and finishing with nine assists. He led the conference with 25 points during the regular season.
Defenders Anthony Tobon, Max Copeland and Jake Whitcomb were also named first team all-conference for OCC.
And defenders Cayden Bonner and Tyler Beteag and midfielder Chase Bullock were picked to the second team.
