Men's soccer team falls by a goal on road at Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team has some work to do in the Orange Empire Conference after dropping its second straight one-goal contest.

The Lasers had their chances, but fell at Orange Coast, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 4-4-5 overall and 0-2-1 in conference. The win moved Orange Coast to the top of the table in conference at 2-0-1. The Pirates also improved to 8-1-2 overall.

The first, last and only goal of the game came in the 40th minute when Julian Madrigal delivered a nice touch-pass to teammate Matthew Ruiz, who scored on a shot into the lower corner of the net, putting the Pirates up for good.

IVC controlled much of the action in the second half and outshot the Pirates, 9-6, over the final 45 minutes, but the majority of the Lasers' chances sailed wide or over the net.

The best chance for the Lasers came in the final minutes of play when freshman midfielder Dowan Kim ripped a shot on frame, but OCC goalkeeper Pablo Ramirez controlled the shot and didn't allow a second chance. Ramirez finished with six saves.

Freshman midfielder Joshua Lummis led IVC with five shots. Kim had three shots – all on goal.

IVC freshman goalie Nathan King notched nine saves.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Santiago Canyon in a conference match at 3 p.m.
