Men's soccer team allows two, late goals and ties at COD

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team kept its six-match unbeaten streak going with a 3-3 nonconference tie at College of the Desert on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers, though, felt like they let a win get away.

Irvine Valley led, 3-1, with under 20 minutes to go before the Roadrunners scored two goals to draw, including one in extra time.

Irvine Valley was tied, 1-1, at the half after a penalty kick conversion by freshman midfielder Juan Gomez in the 19th minute.

The Lasers took a 2-1 lead just two minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Benjamin Asabi scored his team-tying sixth goal of the season.

And Irvine Valley increased its lead in the 68th minute when it received another penalty kick and Gomez converted.

But in the 74th minute, Desert's Dan Sanchez lofted a pass forward to Lucas Rosales and he poked a shot right past diving IVC keeper Nathan King to make it a 3-2 contest.

In injury time, Desert's Leyver Guzman pushed a pass to Rosales, who scored past King. Moments later the official blew the whistle to conclude the match.

King finished with seven saves in goal for the Lasers.

The draw gave Irvine Valley four wins and two ties in its last six matches and moved the Lasers' record to 4-2-4 overall.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, starting Orange Empire Conference action against Golden West at home at 3 p.m.
