Men's soccer team wins fourth in its last five, shuts out Norco

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team came away with a big 1-0 victory at Norco on Friday afternoon.

Norco was ranked tied for No. 15 in the California Community College Sports Information Association Top 20 State Poll this week.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 4-2-3 overall. The Lasers are undefeated in their last five matches with four wins over that time.

"We played another good match," Irvine Valley coach Martin McGrogan said. "We had lots of chances and should have scored more. Benji (Asabi) hit the post a couple of times, Max (Kleinhammes) did too.

We just have to finish our chances. We have to start putting teams away."

Freshman forward Max Kleinhammes scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute. Sophomore midfielder Marco Peccolo played a ball through to Kleinhammes who went to goal and finished.

It was Kleinhammes team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Kleinhammes, sophomore forward Benjamin Asabi and freshman midfielder Joshua Lummis each took four shots in the contest for the Lasers.

Sophomore goalie Nathan King finished with three saves in the shutout.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at College of the Desert at 3 p.m.
