Men's soccer team rolls in 7-0 conference win at Cypress

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team scored its most goals in a game in more than three years when it routed Cypress, 7-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday at Cypress.

It was the most goals Irvine Valley put on the board in a game since Sept. 9, 2015 when it beat Moorpark, 7-0.

The win was Irvine Valley's third straight positive result in a row in conference. The Lasers defeated Orange Coast and tied Santa Ana last week.

Tuesday's victory improved the Lasers' record to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference action. Cypress slipped to 1-9-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference.

Sophomore forward Grant Joyce scored his first hat trick as a Laser to lead the way.

He scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute to get IVC going. He added another goal 10 minutes later and scored his third goal and Irvine Valley's fourth of the contest in the 51st minute.

Irvine Valley led, 3-0, at the end of the first half and scored four more goals in the final 45 minutes.

Freshman midfielder Julian Anaya added two goals in the second half and sophomore forward Daniel Segal and freshman midfielder Joshue Gallardo each added a goal in the win.

Joyce and Segal now share the team lead in goals with five apiece. The two goals by Anaya were his first of the year and Gallardo scored his first goal as a Laser.

Freshman Nathan King started in goal and finished with four saves in nearly 70 minutes of action. Freshman Jared Yap played the final 20 minutes and didn't have to make a save.

Irvine Valley has a bye from conference action on Friday and plays again next Tuesday at Norco at 3 p.m.
