The Irvine Valley men's soccer team suffered two tough losses to start Orange Empire Conference play this week.
The Lasers fell at Fullerton, 2-1, on Tuesday and then lost, 2-1, to defending conference champ Golden West on Friday afternoon.
Irvine Valley had chances in each match, but came up short.
On Tuesday after a scoreless first half, Fullerton took the lead in the 55th minute. Oliver Meza scored off an assist from Carlos Esparza.
Irvine Valley was able to tie the contest in the 70th minute. A cross sent into the box wasn't cleared and IVC sophomore defender Michael Davis was able to knock it into the net.
But Fullerton answered two minutes later with what turned out to be the game-winner. Danny Abrego-Fulton scored off a pass from Cesar Coronado.
Irvine Valley tried to level the score late, but had a goal called back for offsides.
IVC freshman keeper Nathan King finished with seven saves.
On Friday, Irvine Valley trailed, 1-0, but tied the game again in the 70th minute when sophomore forward Grant Joyce knocked in a volley from 25 yards out. Freshman Andy Sosa was credited with the assist.
But Golden West scored in extra time to earn the victory.
King was in goal for the Lasers and made five saves.
IVC saw its record slip to 2-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference.
The Lasers will try and get back on track with two home games next week.
Irvine Valley hosts Orange Coast on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then plays against Santa Ana at 3 p.m. on Friday at IVC.
