Men's soccer team earns No. 7 seed in playoffs, hosts Chaffey

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team will get a home match in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association South Regional Playoffs.

That match will be this Saturday at home against Chaffey at 2 p.m.

The top eight teams received a home contests. Irvine Valley was seeded seventh and is slated to take on No. 10 Chaffey.

Irvine Valley has reached the South Regional Finals the last two season.

The Lasers head into this year's postseason with a record of 11-5-4 overall. IVC went 9-2-3 in the Orange Empire Conference and finished second behind Golden West.

Irvine Valley has a record of 6-1-3 at home this year.

The Lasers, who finsihed the regular season ranked No. 13 in the state, have out-scored opponents, 39-28, on the season. Freshman forward Eder Olivas has led the way with 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points. He was third in the conference in goals and points.

Sophomore forward Toby Waterman has scored seven goals and has five assists for 19 points, freshman defender Juan Sebastian Olivares has tallied six goals so far, freshman midfielder Alexis Campos has three goals and one assist.

Irvine Valley's defense has been paced by Olivares, sophomores Alfonso Quezada-Osorno and Andrew Hernandez and freshmen Mathew Davis and Michael Saba along with freshman keeper Braden Peters.

Peters has three shutouts and a 1.42 goals against average on the season.

Chaffey finished second in the South Coast Conference North Division.

The Panthers have a record of 10-6-5 overall. They won two matches to end the regular season, including winning at Mt. SAC, 1-0, last Friday.

Gustavo Chavez scored the lone goal of the contest in the sixth minute off an assist from Miguel Huerta.

Chavez leads the Panthers along with Oscar Casillas-Palomar with nine goals on the season. Adrian Moreno has eight goals for Chaffey.

The winner of Saturday's contest will move on to the second round next Tuesday or Wednesday against either No. 2 Mt. SAC or No. 15 Citrus.
