Irvine Valley's men's soccer team is on a roll.
The Lasers won their fourth straight match and tallied the most goals they've scored in a contest this season in a 4-1 Orange Empire Conference win over Santiago Canyon on Friday at home.
It was IVC's sixth straight game with a positive result (4-0-2 over that time) and kept the Lasers in a tie for first place with Santa Ana in the conference standings.
Irvine Valley improved its record to 7-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in conference. Santiago Canyon's record fell to 1-9-4 overall and 1-6-1 in conference.
"We scored some really good goals today," Irvine Valley coach Martin McGrogan said. "We knew we had that ability all year and we are starting to see it more.
Irvine Valley led, 1-0, at the half and then put the match away with three goals in the second half. Freshman forward Eder Olivas led the offensive attack for IVC with one goal and two assists.
Sophomore forward Toby Waterman got the Lasers on the board at the end of the first half.
Waterman was clipped in the Santiago Canyon box and awarded a penalty kick in the 36th minute.
His attempt was initially saved by Hawk keeper Aaron Servin, but Waterman was able to follow up on the rebound and give IVC a 1-0 lead.
It was all IVC in the second half as the Lasers out-shot Santiago Canyon, 10-1.
Waterman nearly scored again five minutes into the second half, but Servin was able to make a diving save on a shot.
The Lasers took a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute when freshman midfielder Shahdon Shoga hammered in a shot from 25 yards out off a pass from Olivas.
And IVC made it a 3-0 game in the 63rd minute when freshman midfielder Alexis Campos headed in a cross from Olivas.
Santiago Canyon got a goal back in the 65th minute after it was awarded a penalty kick. Juan Reyes Pacheco found the lower left corner of the net to pull the Hawks within 3-1.
Irvine Valley capped its scoring in the 73rd minute on a fine strike by Olivas.
Olivas recorded his seventh goal and sixth and seventh assists of the season. Waterman scored his fifth goal of the year. Campos scored his second goal and second in two matches and Shoga earned his first goal of the season.
Freshman Braden Peters played in goal in the first half and recorded two saves. Sophomore Ben Chamberlin played in the second half and didn't have to record a save.
Irvine Valley has a bye on Tuesday and plays again next Friday at home against Fullerton at 3 p.m. The Lasers' lone loss in conference came at Fullerton (2-1) on Sept. 19.
