Irvine Valley sophomore men's soccer player Jose Rivera picked up another honor late last week.
The midfielder was one of 24 players named to the California Community College Soccer Coaches Association Men's All-State Team.
He was one of 12 players chosen from the Southern California region and four players in the Orange Empire Conference.
The other OEC selections were Oscar Navarro of Santa Ana, Eduin Munguia of Fullerton and Brian Montalvo of Golden West.
Rivera was a two-year all-conference selection for the Lasers.
He was one of the best midfielders in the state this season. Rivera was also named the Southern California All-Region team two weeks ago.
He finished with 13 goals and 14 assists for 40 points. He was tops on the IVC team in assists and also paced the conference and ended up fourth in the state in the category.
He scored 13 goals and had five assists a year ago for IVC.
Rivera helped Irvine Valley reach a Southern California Regional Playoff Final for the second year in a row this season.
IVC lost, 3-2, in the regional final to eventual state champion Mt. SAC.
Rivera led the Lasers to a 16-5-3 overall record and a second-place finish in conference.
Irvine Valley ended up ranked seventh in the state and 10th in the nation in final polls.
