Soccer players Goode and Rivera named to all-region team

Irvine Valley sophomore soccer players Sean Goode and Jose Rivera were recently named to the 2016 California Community College Soccer Coaches Association Southern California All-Region Team.

Goode was one of six forwards selected and Rivera was one of eight midfielders.

In all, 18 players were picked to the So. Cal. squad.

Both Goode and Rivera had already been named first team all-Orange Empire Conference.

Goode, who played striker, paced Irvine Valley's offensive attack. He scored a team-high 20 goals and added five assists for 45 points. Goode scored five game-winning goals and had three matches with three goals or more, including scoring four times in Irvine Valley's 5-0 conference win over Cypress on Oct. 25.

Goode led the conference in goals at the end of the year and was second in points.

He played his freshman year for IVC in 2014 and scored nine goals with four assists.

Rivera showed off his all-around skills with 13 goals and 14 assists for 40 points. He was tops on the team in assists and also paced the conference and ended up fourth in the state in the category.

It was the second straight season that Rivera was named first team all-conference. He scored 13 goals and had five assists a year ago for IVC.

The duo helped the Lasers finish with a record of 16-5-3 overall, take second in the Orange Empire Conference, win two playoff games and make a Southern California Regional Playoff Final for the second year in a row.

IVC ended up ranked seventh in the state and 10th in the nation.
