Ferguson, Elder and Syed named to state soccer academic team

The 2016 California Community College Athletic Association Academic All-State Team for men's soccer has been announced.

Irvine Valley had three players named to the team.

They were sophomore midfielder Joseph Ferguson, sophomore forward Connor Elder and freshman redshirt midfielder/defender Umayr Syed.

Twenty-eight players were picked to the team in all.

The recipients of the award must have participated in at least one season of soccer and completed at least 24 semester units with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Ferguson and Elder were part of Irvine Valley's 2015 squad that won an Orange Empire Conference title. Elder and Ferguson were both named all-conference players.

So far this season, Elder has eight goals and three assists for 19 points with four game-winning goals. Ferguson has one goal and three assists and Syed has three assists for the Lasers.
