Men's soccer team ranked 15th in this week's state poll

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team dropped seven spots in the California Community College Athletics Association state poll.

The Lasers fell from eighth to 15th this week.

Irvine Valley had a record of 1-1 last week.

IVC fell to a tough Rio Hondo team, 3-2, on the road last Tuesday. Rio Hondo is ranked 13th in the poll this week.

But the Lasers bounced back with one of their best performances of the season on Friday.

Irvine Valley scored five goals in the second half and defeated Santiago Canyon, 6-1, at home in its Orange Empire Conference opener.

Sophomore forward Connor Elder and freshman forward Daniel Segal each had two goals and one assist in the win.

Elder leads the conference in scoring with seven goals this year.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday at Fullerton at 3 p.m. Fullerton had been ranked in the previous two state polls and is fifth this week. The Hornets have a record of 6-0-1 overall.

Three teams from the OEC are in the state rankings. Fullerton is fifth, Golden West is 11th and Irvine Valley is 15th.
