Irvine Valley's men's soccer team added some history to its special 2015 season on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers captured the fourth conference title in program history - all under head coach Martin McGrogan.

Irvine Valley shut out Santa Ana, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road to earn at least a share of the title.

When the Lasers found out that Orange Coast upset second-place Golden West, 2-0, IVC had the title to itself.

Irvine Valley clinched the title with one match left to go in the regular season.

The Lasers, ranked sixth in the state and 14th in the nation, improved their record to 13-2-5 overall and 10-0-3 in conference.

Santa Ana's record slipped to 7-9-4 overall and 6-5-2 in conference.

The loss meant Santa Ana will suffer just the second losing season in its program history, with the first happening in the 1980 season when the Dons finished 5-10-1.

Irvine Valley scored its first goal in the 19th minute when freshman midfielder Joseph Ferguson took a long pass from freshman defender Scott Clark and beat Santa Ana goalkeeper Andres Figueroa one-on-one.

Freshman forward Toby Waterman had the second goal for the Lasers. He scored in the 51st minute on an assist by freshman midfielder Jose Rivera.

Rivera put the finishing touches on the game, completing IVC's scoring and finding the back of the net on a nice pass from freshman midfielder Jose Gamboa in the 78th minute.

Waterman scored his team and conference-leading 16th goal of the season. He also leads the Lasers and its tied for tops in the conference in assists (with eight) and paces the conference in points (with 40). Waterman ranks second in the state in both goals and points.

Rivera put in his 12th goal of the year, which ranks third in conference. Gamboa's eighth assist of the year tied him for the team and conference lead with Waterman.

Figueroa played all 90 minutes in goal for the Dons and made one save while IVC sophomore keeper Manuel Zamora recorded the clean sheet and made three saves for the Lasers in 90 minutes.

The shutout was Irvine Valley's sixth of the season and third in the team's last six contests.

Irvine Valley closes out the regular season on Friday with a home match against Cypress at 3 p.m.
