Men's soccer team falls to Santa Ana in season finale

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team finished up its 2014 regular season on Friday with a 2-1 Orange Empire Conference loss at home to Santa Ana.

The Lasers ended the season with a record of 6-10-5 overall and 5-7-2 in conference.

IVC had its chances in the game against Santa Ana, but couldn't quite finish.

IVC hit the post with a shot, had another cleared off the Santa Ana goal line and missed a few other quality opportunities in the box.

Freshman forward Sean Goode hit the far post with a right-footed shot from distance in the 21st minute for IVC.

Santa Ana took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a goal by Guillermo Saldana. Saldana got in behind the IVC defense after taking a pass from Abraham Reyes and then beat IVC freshman goalie Elias Licea.

The Dons made it a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half after Gary Carbajal one-timed a cross from Uriel Rebollar into the back of the net.

Goode got IVC back into the match with a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute. It was his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Then on a corner kick in the 86th minute, IVC freshman Riccardo Antonelli had a shot cleared off the line after a corner kick.

It was IVC's last best chance to score.

Licea finished with six saves and Santa Ana goalie Dennis Martinez made four saves.

Santa Ana  improved its record to 11-6-4 overall and 7-6-2 in conference.
