Men's soccer team wins second straight, beats Norco

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team has found its scoring touch.

The Lasers scored four goals for the second straight match in recording a 4-1 Orange Empire Conference victory at Norco on Tuesday afternoon.

Irvine Valley defeated Cypress, 4-0, last Friday at home.

The Lasers improved their record to 5-8-3 overall and 4-5 in conference. They remain in sixth place in the conference standings with 12 points, but are just three points out of fourth place with five matches still left in the regular season.

Sophomore midfielder Fernando Arroyo was IVC's star of the match on Tuesday.

He scored the team's first two goals.

Arroyo put Irvine Valley on the board in the fifth minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Ezequiel Villegas.

And then in the 39th minute, Arroyo scored again - this time from sophomore midfielder Adriel Trejo.

Irvine Valley went ahead, 3-0, midway through the second half on a goal by freshman defender Kevin Yep. Freshman defender Takeo Brady was credited with the assist.

After Norco made it 3-1, on a goal by Oscar Camarena in the 82nd minute, IVC capped its scoring on a goal by sophomore Riccardo Antonelli. Freshman forward Alexis Plata picked up the assist.

Freshman goalie Elias Licea earned the shutout in goal, making five saves on the day.

Irvine Valley plays again Friday at Fullerton at 3 p.m.

The Lasers then have two matches next week at home, hosting Orange Coast on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then Santiago Canyon on Friday at 1 p.m.
