Men's soccer team shuts out Norco for first conference win

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss at Cypress on Tuesday with a dominating performance on Friday at home.

The Lasers earned their first Orange Empire Conference win with a 3-0 victory over Norco.

Irvine Valley was in control from the outset.

Freshman forward Alexis Plata got behind the defense right away before being stopped and then he nearly scored from point blank range five minutes in.

Sophomore midfielder Adriel Trejo then had a shot saved by Norco's keeper.

Irvine Valley played the first half almost entirely in Norco's defensive end.

The Lasers finally got on the board in the 43rd minute when Plata found the back of the net. He took a cross from freshman midfielder Ezequiel Villegas, chested it, collected the ball and then put it in.

IVC led, 1-0, at the half.

The Lasers put the game away midway into the second half when freshman forward Alan Anaya scored off of another assist from Villegas.

IVC scored its  third and final goal with about 10 minutes left.

Plata was at it again. He took a  pass from freshman defender Kevin Yep and scored on a high, hard shot from nearly 30 yards out.

The goals were Plata's team-leading third and fourth of the season. And second and third of the week.

Freshman goalie Elias Licea posted his second shutout of the year, making three saves.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 2-4-3 overall and 1-1-0 in conference.

The Lasers will host Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
