Men's soccer team suffers late loss at Santiago Canyon

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team dropped its second straight match, losing at Santiago Canyon in an Orange Empire Conference contest on Tuesday.

IVC lost 1-0 at Orange Coast last Friday.

The two losses followed three-straight wins for the Lasers and dropped the team's record to 3-7-8 overall and 3-5-3 in conference play.

After 11 minutes, Santiago Canyon struck first with a goal off a header from midfielder Erik Ornelas.

Irvine Valley tied the match in the 40th minute when sophomore midfielder Daniel Totays scored on a penalty kick.

The game remained tied until three minutes into extra time in the second half. Santiago Canyon scored on a deflection off of a free kick.

Carlos Moreno struck the free kick and it hit an IVC defender in the wall, putting the ball 20 feet in the air.

The ball found Robert Escudero, who hit a first-time volley into the upper corner.

It was Irvine Valley's fourth one-goal defeat of the season.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday when it hosts Golden West at 3 p.m.
