Men's golf team starts strong, takes fifth at Pt. Conception

The Irvine Valley men's golf team had a strong start to its 2020 season, finishing fifth overall at the Pt. Conception Open at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc.

The two-day even wrapped up on Monday.

The Lasers took fifth out of 20 schools with a team score 396.

Reedley won the event with a score of 378. Mt. San Antonio was second at 394 and Cypress and Ventura finished tied for third at 395.

IVC finished in front of such schools as Palomar, Santa Barbara City and Saddleback.

Sophomore Dustin Vasquez and freshman Connor O'Brien led the way for the Lasers. Each shot rounds of 76 on the first day and 79 on the second day for totals of 155.

Freshman Kellen Kudrna and sophomore Greg Williams each came in at 166 for IVC (rounds of 81 and 85) and sophomore Shayne Knight shot 167 (82 and 85).

Sophomore Armand Flamer-Caldera shot 87 the first day for IVC and sophomore Caleb Humble scored 80 on the second day.

Irvine Valley is back in action on Monday, Feb. 3 when it takes part in the Orange Empire Conference Tee Off Classic at Candlewood.
